WORK to remove the steel canopy from outside The Arcade in Bournemouth town centre is set to start next week. Engineers will remove the 30-year-old structure in Old Christchurch Road, which BCP Council says has become corroded and now poses a health risk because of the pigeons that roost there. Councillor Mike Greene, member for transport and sustainability – and town centre ward member – said: We understand that some people may have affection for the canopy however removal is by far the best and most cost-effective option for the area. We look forward to providing shoppers with a more enhanced experience when they visit this part of Bournemouth town centre.”

Benicia city manager promotes from within to replace self as chief

BENICIA The city manager announced Monday that Capt. Mike Greene will replace him as the city’s police chief.
Greene replaces Erik Upson, who joined the department as chief of police in 2015 and was appointed interim city manager in September. The Benicia City Council unanimously made the appointment permanent in January. Greene served as interim chief of police in Upson’s absence.
“I am confident that Mike will continue to lead the Police Department with integrity, accountability and compassion,” Upson said in a prepared statement. “He will ensure the culture and vision of the department continues to move forward.”
